Modern in the Middle
Book Design
Modern in the Middle is a book design for Monacelli Press and the IIT College of Architecture. I worked within a grid and typographic styles created by Bud Rodecker to create layouts expressive of the architecture selected for the book.
The baseline grid in combination with the rows and columns allow for elements of the page layouts to retain and reinforce a structure throughout by aligning with the text. Because of the historic nature of the pictures in the book, this was essential as it allowed for the full width and height of the image to exist on each spread.
