Dissection: “Y”

Exploring the shapes that I can find with a letter. For today I simply took a slab serif Y from the open source typeface Nexa Slab and “sliced” the letter-form into an assortment of shapes by drawing intersecting lines based on the different segments of the Y that are more obvious within a slab-serif typeface.

By doing this, I think an arrangement of abstract shapes is created that pushes the question that I began asking myself with the last post: “How much of a letter do you need to convey that letter?”. I am attempting to push how much geometry of the letter Y is needed to recognized as a Y.
